In the winter of 1999, France’s worst storm ever destroyed 10,000 trees on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles. In year 2000, Olivier Poussier, World's Best Sommelier winner, selected yew from these uprooted Versailles trees for his Chateau Laguiole signature corkscrew. A portion of the sales of this corkscrew go toward the restoration of Versailles.' famed trees. The Foil Cutter blade on each corkscrew of this model is laser engraved with a unique serial number, identifying the individual corkscrew. Brushed steel boot lever and bolsters. Comes with vertical, tan leather snap case.
Chateau Laguiole "Master Sommelier" series honors the winners of the "World's Best Sommelier" taste-offs, held every 3 years. Each winner is invited to Chateau Laguiole's workshops to select their "signature" corkscrew handle and leathercase. Master Sommelier series corkscrews feature graceful curved handles and realistic bees (see below, right) decorating the spines.
